  • each approximately 6.7cm., 2 5/8 in. high
of fluted tapering form, finely painted in the Vincennes style with a large red and white tulip and scattered small flower sprigs, the interiors with a further sprig, one beaker with an small insect to the reverse, with shaped-rims edged in brown,

Condition

The example with an insect to the side, and the tulip head slanting towards 10 o'clock; there are three pin-head sized rim chips and a glazed over chip to the reverse and a small glaze blemish just below the rim. The other example with the tulip head slanting towards 1 o'clock; has a shallow rim chip with traces of brown enamel over the top which may be from the time of manufacture. Minor glaze pits to the interiors and exteriors., but overall these are in good order and appearance.

A beaker of this form bearing a raised anchor mark, together with a saucer was sold in these rooms, 20th July 1971, lot 26. Tim Clarke illustrates in his paper, op. cit., a Chelsea porcelain beaker of this form and a saucer, together with a Vincennes version of the same forms, pl. 21d & e. See Severne Mackenna, op.cit., for beakers of similar form made throughout the incised triangle and raised anchor period decorated with European flowers, Kakiemon and famille rose designs, pls. 15, 25, 28, 41, 57.
