  • A two-colour gold and tortoiseshell toothpick case, circa 1800
  • ivory, gold, tortoiseshell
  • 8cm., 3 1/8 in. wide
rectangular in French taste, the lid inset with three glazed panels with ivory miniatures depicting a harbour scene sketched in ink, the two-colour gold mounts chased with laurel garlands and acanthus on a matted ground, interior of lid with mirror, later French control marks only

Condition

overall good condition apart from staining to right hand ivory panel. mirror and its frame are replacement and so is the glazing to lid - mounts are very slightly lifting up for that reason.
