modelled standing playing bagpipes resting under his left arm, with a hound and sheep at his feet, his clothes picked out in pale yellow, puce and blue on a scroll-edged base picked out in gilding, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue to rear of base, the Berlin figure, modelled by Christian Wilhelm Meyer, seated on a tree stump feeding a goat with a garland of grapevine, sceptre mark in underglaze-blue, incised C.M. mark,

Condition

Meissen shepherd- small nick to brim of hat. Minor restoration to yellow bow in hat with possibly some repainting.Some small restoration to bagpipes and to end of little finger of right hand.Shallow restored area along edge of jacket.Some small restoration to blue bows on knees and shoes.Some restoration to leaves on branch.Restoration and chip to dog's right ear. Restoration to both of sheep's ears and to rear left leg.Minor wear to gilding on base. Berlin figure- some restoration to left arm and thumb.Some minor wear to gilding.

Catalogue Note

The Berlin figure belongs to a series of five figures, three of the other models in the series are in the Kunstgewerbemuseum Berlin, published by Erich Köllmann and Margarete Jarchow, Berliner Porzellan, Munich, 1987, Vol. II, p. 373, pl. 179. An example was sold at Christie's London, 1st May 2002, lot 48.
