Description

Romanée St. Vivant 2001 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti
Côte de Nuits, Grand Cru

An alluring nose of tobacco and compost with a touch of violets and aniseed. Glorious minty opulence, unique to Romanée-Saint- Vivant. Great attack and minty fruit. Very fresh acidity. This really shows the wonderfully defined, incisive side of 2001. At 8 years old from magnum, it has a convincing, deep colour and an intense, piercing bouquet. Violets, concentration, and utter definition of classy Pinot Noir on great terroir. The sweetness of the fruit increases in the glass. Great fresh acidity which, initially, slightly cuts off the finish. Then the cassis berries take over on the palate. There is a lot of sweetness 'integrally' in the wine. The tannins come out at the end. Keep. Serena Sutcliffe, MW
