Catalogue Note

Alessandra Drudi, also known as Gea della Gherisenda, a name coined by Gabriele D’Annunzio, was a famous singer admired for her beauty by the poets and artists of the time such as Carducci, Leoncavallo and Pascoli.

She began her singing career in 1899 and trained in Operetta, gaining success in 1911 at the Turin Balbo Theater and establishing her own troupe company the following year.

She retired in 1920, and in 1933 married Senator Borsalino, the owner of the eponymous Italian hat company well known for its Fedoras.

The couple lived the rest of their life at the famous Villa Verucchio previously owned by Carolina of Brunswick, wife of King George IV of England.
