The exterior with a chased chevron design and set with two lines of calibré-cut rubies, the edges with a foliate scroll and striking strip, the clasps additionally set with cabochon rubies, the divided lid opening to reveal two interior compartments for cigarettes and matches, inscribed 'Happy New Jear' and dated 1912, measuring approximately 94 x 49 x 10mm, partial maker's mark, weight approximately 119 grams.
Condition
Stamped 585 indicating 14 carat gold. Inscribed 'oncle Georg 1912'. Rubies are a pinkish-red hue and are well matched for colour throughout. One ruby deficient. Clasps on both compartments firm and slightly difficult to open. Some slight discolouration around thumbpiece. Light surface scratches consistent with wear. In good condition.
