Lacquer and diamond vanity case, Cartier, 1930s

The exterior of the rectangular case applied with plain black lacquer, the front with a sliding clasp of geometric design set with single-cut diamonds, opening to reveal a mirror, two open compartments, two additional compartments with hinged lids applied with black lacquer for pressed powder and cigarettes respectively, a lipstick holder, a lighter with coral striking wheel, and a tortoiseshell comb, measuring approximately 159 x 109 x 21mm, case signed Cartier London, numbered, British hallmarks, lighter signed Cartier Paris, numbered, French assay marks.

Signed Cartier London. numbered 8372 and 9847, lighter numbered 9376. Lacquer with small chips in places and light scratching consistent with age and wear. Metal tarnished with age. Diamonds bright and lively. Coral in good condition, lighter mechanism not in working order. Tortoiseshell in good condition. Traces of powder to inside of compartments. Clasp slides to right. In good condition.
