Description

The lid set with carved lapis lazuli and jadeite with floral and bird motifs, highlighted with rose diamonds, opening to reveal a mirror and two powder compartments, the back of plain black enamel decorated with millegrain-set rose diamonds, measurements approximately 95 x 45 x 18mm, numbered, French assay mark and maker's mark for Strauss, Allard & Meyer. 

Condition

French assay marks for 18 carat gold on mirror frame and base of left interior compartment, French assay marks for platinum on ends of diamond motifs on lid. French maker's mark S.A.M. with painter's palette for Strauss Allard & Meyer to base of left interior compartment. Numbered 99 on base of right interior compartment. Jadeite green and white, translucent, lapis lazuli blue, opaque, with pyrite and calcite inclusions, both with typical mottling and inclusions visible to the naked eye. Crack to jadeite panel by push piece, jadeite and lapis with very light chipping to edges of carving. Diamonds bright and lively, estimated total diamond weight approximately 2.00 - 3.00 carats. Push piece and hinges intact. Clasp secure. Mirror cracked. Areas of minor discolouration to metal on interior. Light scratches to stone, metal, glass and enamel surfaces consistent with age and use. Fitted pouch. Gross weight approximately 197 grams.
