The exterior applied with black lacquer, the sides applied with jadeite cylinders set with bands of millegrain-set rose diamonds, opening to reveal a mirror, a lipstick holder, and powder compartment with hinged lid, measuring approximately 53 x 51 x 19mm, signed Cartier, numbered, French assay and maker's marks, British import hallmarks.

Condition

French assay marks for silver to top of mirror frame. French assay mark for gold and silver to front lip of box, additional partial French assay mark for gold and silver to interior edge of lid, and French assay mark for silver and indistinct maker's mark to top of mirror frame, additional French assay marks to detachable lipstick holder. British import hallmark for silver, London, date letter 'q' for 1931 on base of powder compartment, with import mark 'J.C' for Jacques Cartier. Further British import marks to mirror frame, lipstick cap, detachable lipstick holder and interior of lid. Signed Cartier Paris, made in France to top of mirror. Numbered 840 and 7117 on mirror frame. Partial maker's mark to lip of hinged lid to powder compartment. Lacquer with scratches to surface, and four small chips to the corners and edges. Dents to lacquer around join to diamond and jadeite motifs. Jadeite green in colour, opaque, with typical mottling and inclusions visible to the naked eye. Restoration to four end sections of jadeite motifs. Mirror glass intact, with slight movement in frame. All hinges secure, sliding lipstick fitting secure, lid closes securely. Scratches to all surfaces consistent with age and use. In good condition.
