Condition

Overall very good condition. The box lid with two small losses to the enamel in the central portion, each measuring approximately ¼ inch wide. The edges of the leaves with some occasional losses which have been sensitively applied with transparent lacquer at some point in the history of the piece. The eggplant fruit portion of the box appears to be in original condition with the enamel fully intact and no evidence of prior restoration. When viewed in person, the eggplant presents with an even more variegated color palette, ranging from strong emerald green to more subtle forest green with golden undertones throughout, and with passages of rich russet brown. The leaf cover is richly iridized and presents a range of brown, green and purple hues, creating a wonderful chromatic and textural contrast with the eggplant box. The curled edges of the leaves underscore the vessel's sculptural quality and imparts the piece with a wonderful liveliness and charm.
