  • maker's, prestige and German standard marks
  • carved ivory, silver-gilt mounts
  • 72cm., 28 3/8 in. high
the finial in the form of Aphrodite accompanied by a putto, the barrel carved with a bacchanale, each handle carved as a bearded Dionysius, the silver-gilt mounts with palmettes, laurel wreath and scrolling foliage 

Condition

superb carving, overall excellent condition apart from minor usual hairline cracks and a few minute restoration to high relief (leaves, foot of putto on lid) almost not noticeable to naked eye.
