Condition

While this volume is presented in the first binding, it is bound with the second state of the catalogue (24pp. dated 1855), rather than the first (16pp. undated, listing works published no later than 1853).

Catalogue Note

Wallace's expedition to the Amazon, starting in 1848, established his reputation as a naturalist. There were 750 copies of the first edition printed of which 250 were later issued in a remainder green cloth binding.
