Catalogue Note

The Grönefeld Parallax Tourbillon was awarded the prestigious Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève for the best watch in the tourbillon categorie. The 'flying tourbillon', used here is a clever aesthetic touch, whereby the bridge is removed and the tourbillon is connected from below, thus giving the wearer a clearer view of the tourbillon oscillations.

This extraordinary model was produced as a limited edition of 5 pieces in platinum, plus another unique platinum example with a special dial, 28 examples in red gold and only twelve made in steel.

The present lot is number one of the steel series.

Gerhard Louis Gronefeld (‘Johan’) started working as a watchmaker at the age of only 16 in 1912. He went on to start up his own business in Oldenzaal, The Netherlands, and quickly established a glowing reputation for watchmaking.  His son, Sjef Gronefeld, born in 1941, followed in his footsteps and entered the watchmaking world.  Sjef’s two boys, Bart and Tim also continued their father’s and grandfather’s legacy by training in Switzerland, working under various important watchmakers for major watch brands. After completing their training, both brothers returned to their hometown in 1998 to continue their own work for the family firm.  In 2008, the brothers successfully released their first Gronefeld watch, the GTM-06.
