Catalogue Note

The present lot was a prototype designed in advance of Høvelskov’s iconic ‘Harp’ chair which was first exhibited in 1968. The incorporation of string as a support mechanism for the body echoes Hans Wegner’s ‘Flag Halyard’ chair from 1950 and more closely Helge Vestergaard Jensen’s works with nylon string, including his ‘Racket’ chair from 1965. Already reduced to its essential elements, the present lot offers a unique glimpse into the methodology of one of Denmark’s greatest designers.
