Diego Giacometti`s world is one of nature and wildlife – “these animals, more familiar to me than men”. It is through sobriety, poetry, variety and a sense of calmness that Diego Giacometti tames his art. Inspired by a childhood spent close to nature in Switzerland, he will join his brother in Paris in 1927, the sculptor Alberto Giacometti. Both brothers work at times quite closely together, Diego being slightly in the shadow of Alberto. Full of memories, freedom, emotions, his compositions each bear a form of narrative aligning nature quite closely with tales and mythologies. The rugs he produced, such “La Rencontre” and “La Promenade des amis” ran in parallel with his sculptural work and reveal all the simplicity and purity of his inspiration.
