Catalogue Note

Ingo Maurer’s designs transform light into an art form: ‘It is there, the energy is just there. I like to play and think with lights and I consider light a service for others. It can make you feel better and improve your life quality.’ Indeed,  Maurer’s designs are both functional and thought provoking. Always pushing the boundaries of how light can be transformed into a visual language, Ingo Maurer employs a multitude of unconventional materials on his designs. No material is left unconsidered. Maurer incorporates a variety of materials including broken porcelain dinnerware (lot 150), plastic toys, feathers and here, aluminium honeycomb. A material normally reserved for industrial purposes, here it serves as a perfect combination of light diffusor and sculpture.
