Catalogue Note

Barbro Nilsson became artistic director of the Märta Måås-Fjetterström after Märta Måås passed away in 1941. She was a very skilled and established weaver as well as an artist. In 1943 she introduced a new technique to the studio, named gobelängteknik. The gobelängteknik is inspired by the way traditional tapestries are woven, but is executed in a way that makes for a durable and usable carpet. This allows for freer forms in a flat weave rug compared to the traditional rölakan technique. Barbro Nilsson’s first design in her newly invented technique was Snäckorna, inspired by the sea. One Snäckorna was acquired by Nationalmuesum, Stockholm.
