Catalogue Note
The furniture design duo Rosario Hurtado and Roberto Feo initially met in Madrid. They had backgrounds in economics, sociology and social anthropology before following their growing interest in design. With a vision of design being a collaboration, a constant dialogue and experimentation, their `hands-on` approach allows their work to engage with what they refer to as a ‘multiplex’ approach. This particular design agenda allows the pair to work with an overlapping sequence of design decisions that involve multiple ways of handling abstract ideas as opposed to one that offers a singular design outcome through a singular perspective. Using the phrase: ‘design is what we do in order to understand design’, their modus operandi often relies on a strong sense of cohersion between the complementary and the contradictory, winning them the London Design Festival medal in 2012.
