Catalogue Note

Lu Chuntao studied art at the Shanghai International Studies University and is currently a vice principal of the Shanghai Calligraphy and Painting Academy and executive director of the Shanghai Artist Association. Favouring the traditional lotus motif—symbolising the process of emerging out of earthly disorder and towards enlightenment—Lu transforms its classical forms within a dense configuration and suggests light flecks among richly coloured ink pigments.
