Condition

These works are in very good condition overall. Each sheet is hinged on the reverse in multiple locations to its backing board. The edges are deckled on all sides. The sheets undulate slightly, due to the artist’s choice of medium. Upon very close inspection, there is some very minor surface soiling and soft creases in some areas. Each framed under Plexiglas.

Catalogue Note

“Drawing is a way of thinking…it’s very direct, but not specific. My real thinking is visual…Making a series of visual connections is a particular idea, there’s no beginning or end. I start out, with a formal structure - couplets or whatever. Then I take it from there. It’s about joining things up, making relationships, but at the same time letting the drawing itself do the work. One of the things about [the Cold Mountain work] is, it’s more directly involved in the act of drawing and the automatic. [The works] start out with observation and then automatic reaction, and then back off, so there’s layering of different ways of drawing…”
