Condition

This work is in very good condition overall. There is evidence of light wear and handling along the edges and at the corners of the canvas only visible upon close inspection. There is minor rubbing with associated pigment loss at the four corners of the work. The canvas is slightly slack on its stretcher and as a result, there is a soft undulation at the top right corner. Under Ultraviolet light inspection there is no evidence of restoration. Framed.

Catalogue Note

“I’m aware that in my work I am constantly trying to give very little information. I try to avoid a whole lot of things that could be seen as contemporary or relating to the facts that we know of society…because I want to have a very indirect approach in reflecting the world, or society, or a position.”
John White, “The Unknowable Michaël Borremans Brings a Perverse Gravitas to Contemporary Painting,” Modern Painters, November 2011, p. 66
