Condition
This work is in very good condition overall. There is light wear along the edges and at the corners of the work. The surface texture is inherent to the artist's working method. Upon close inspection there is evidence of a few scattered, pinpoint surface accretions, most noticeably 6 1/2 inches from the center right edge and again in the lower left quadrant, 3 inches from the left edge. Under Ultraviolet light inspection there is no evidence of restoration. Under Ultraviolet light inspection there is a ½ inch hairline horizontal surface accretion in the lower left corner, approximately 2 ½ inches from the left edge and 11 ½ inches from the bottom edge, which fluoresces lightly but does not appear to be the result of restoration. Unframed.

Catalogue Note
"[Rudolf Stingel's] work demonstrates an acute awareness of the aspirations, failures and challenges to Modernist painting, while at the same time expressing a sincere belief in painting itself, focusing on formal characteristics including color, gesture, composition, and, most importantly, surface.”
