Betty Parsons Gallery, New York Private Collection, San Francisco Sotheby's, New York, 7 October 1989, Lot 432 Collection of Eugene Prakapas, New York (acquired from the above sale) Thence by descent to the present owner
This work is in good condition overall. There is evidence of wear and handling the edges including some minor hairline craquelure and rubbing at the pull margins. The unpainted canvas has lightly discolored with age and there are white marks intermittently along the bottom edge and a 2-inch spot on the right edge. Under very close inspection, there is a small area of loss to the blue pigment and some light, associated flaking of paint along the upper left edge, a few minor areas of stable hairline craquelure and pinpoint and unobtrusive brown spot accretions in the center of the blue just below the green form. Under raking light there is a soft indentation in the top center of the top green form. Under Ultraviolet inspection the aforementioned white areas along the bottom and right edges fluoresce darkly and appear to have benefitted from light retouching, and a few scattered circular areas primarily in the blue pigment also fluoresce darkly and appear to have also benefitted from restoration. Framed. In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above.
