Condition

This work is in very good condition overall. There is evidence of light wear and handling along the edges including some very minor hairline craquelure at the pull margins with associated pinpoint losses at each turning edge corner, a 1-inch area of stable cracking in the upper right corner and evidence of gilded frame rub at the edges, all of which is obscured by the frame. The canvas is slightly loose on its stretcher. The colors are bright, fresh and clean. Under very close inspection, the area of thicker white paint in the lower right corner has yellowed slightly, two pinpoint brown spot accretions are visible approximately 8-inches from the left edge and 2-inches from the bottom edge and there is evidence of rubbing to the black pigment in the dog’s neck, revealing the underlying layers of blue and brown paint along with a faint white abrasion to the black paint just below in the dog’s neck. Under Ultraviolet light inspection, two small drip accretions, one to the left of the dog’s head and one on the lower right edge fluoresce lightly and do not appear to be the result of restoration. Framed.
