Condition

This work is in very good condition overall. There is very light evidence of handling along the edges. Under extremely close inspection and in raking light when viewed from the side, faint irregularies or drips in the pigment can be seen. Under Ultraviolet light inspection, these drips fluoresce lightly but to not appear to be the result of restoration and rather appear to be part of the artist’s intent and chosen medium. Unframed.

Catalogue Note

"Light illuminates the reliefs, creates shadows and reflections, flattens and highlights the surfaces, and thus confers existence on the painting. Therefore Castellani could not fail to gradually approach its splendor through the use of the absolute color white, which radiates, slides across and unifies the surface and at the same time functions as a register of total freedom."
Germano Celant in Exh. Cat., Milan, Fondazione Prada, Enrico Castellani, 2001, p. 17
