Condition

This work is in very good and sound condition overall. A light dust has settled on the sculpture and scattered fibers are stuck to the surface. There is some soiling, minor accretions, residue and brown discoloration present most notably on the bottom row of the sculpture. Under close inspection, there are scattered unobtrusive and small pigment losses, dents, scratches and nicks to the white painted metal. There are two holes at each corner of the bottom row of cubes possibly from the time of execution.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.

Catalogue Note

"Since art is a vehicle for the transmission of ideas through form, the reproduction of the form only reinforces the concept. It is the idea that is being reproduced. Anyone who understands the work of art owns it. We all own the Mona Lisa."
