Condition

Color: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate. Condition: This work is in very good condition. The sheet is affixed verso to the mount intermittently along the top edge. There is a slight undulation to the sheet and all surface inconsistencies, including wrinkling and creasing of the paper, are inherent to the artist's working method and intent. Under close inspection, some scattered areas of hairline craquelure are visible to the white painted areas, some of which have led to scattered minute spots of loss.
"In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective, qualified opinion. Catalogue Note

"I like it when my art includes references to the past, to my roots. I cannot forget what my precursors have done. Even if the results look new, as far as I am concerned, as an artist I’m following an academic path. I like tracking down certain pictures, techniques and procedures. It is a way of understanding what is largely determined by tradition."
