Catalogue Note
The rich carving on this console table is a trademark of Piedmontese carving in the second quarter of the 18th century. Piedmontese craftsmen were inspired by French Régence models. Another console illustrated in V. Viale, Mostra del Baroco Piemontese, 1961, pl. 81, features a similar elaborately shaped x-form stretcher and hoof feet. A pair of Turinese armchairs with similar legs from the Alberto Bruni Tedeschi collection were sold Sotheby's London, March 21, 2007, lot 16.
