Condition

Lacquer very nicely carved and figures very well drawn. Lacquer is dry with some areas of flaking and lifting. Areas of extensive restoration over cracks and lines of construction to panels. With some small subsequent losses to lacquer decoration. The reserve in fair condition with some restorations and losses; the screen would benefit from sympathetic conservation to maintain lacquer. However, the majority of the lacquer appears to be stable but must be handled delicately. The boards with minor warpage consistent with age and use. When the screen is set up, it is able to stand well. We would suggest consulting a lacquer restorer for a more detailed condition report.
