Catalogue Note

Besides being a sculptor of his own right, Carlo Albacini (1735-1813) was one of the most prolific restorer of ancient sculptures in eighteenth-century Rome. He was the student of Bartolomeo Cavaceppi, form whom he learned the art of restoring, and later in his career he catered to Grand Tour travelers and tourists as well as to architects. A truly versatile artist, he also collaborated with Luigi Valadier and produced pieces for elaborate table settings and surtouts de table.
