Catalogue Note

Swedish porphyry was first discovered in Älvaden in 1731 but was not commercially exploited until after 1788. Swedish porphyry is celebrated for its extreme density, rich hues, and diverse types. Orrlok is just one of the hundreds of types of Swedish porphyry that were used to create many bold Neoclassical vases, tazze, and urns throughout the 19th century.
