Condition

Lovely decoration; very sweet. Redecorated. Glass later and further cut in to make opening larger. Flowers with some inpainting. Cracklure to surface and some minor age cracks. The writing surface's velvet is very worn with stains and losses.

Catalogue Note

George William Coventry, 8th Earl of Coventry (1784-1843) was a British peer and a Tory member of Parliament. The Coventry family's ancestral seat was Croome Court. The 7th Earl of Coventry redesigned Croome Court with Robert Adam and Lancelot 'Capability' Brown. The celebrated Tapestry Room from Croome Court is now in the Metropolitan Museum.
