Condition
In overall very good condition. The painting has a rather firm relining, but much of the impasto still stands proud of the canvas. The paint surface is clean and the varnish is clear and even. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals sensitively-executed spot retouching scattered in the sitter's face and in the white drapery of his sleeve, but otherwise very little intervention.
