Condition
The painting is in overall very good condition. The canvas is unlined, with a horizontal seam running across the width of the canvas, just above centre (visible in the catalogue illustration). The paint surface is relatively clean and the varnish is clear and even. Some retouching is visible in the blues of the patriarch's robes, right. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals very little other intervention, save for some very minor, scattered retouchings, and a fine line of retouching along the aforementioned seam.
