Condition

The picture, although framed as one, is made up of three separate panels, all of which are cradled and in fair, stable condition. Each panel is composed of four horizontal planks. The left hand panel's upper join has very slightly reopened towards the left margin. A thick but clear varnish overall is visible. Inspection under ultra violet light reveals a streaky application of varnish and a degree of scattered retouchings throughout, all of which are mainly found in the darker tones of the background. The central figures, especially those of Saint Hubert, the dogs and the stag, remain remarkably untouched and are in good condition. There is a slight degree of wear in some parts, with the head and torso of the angel having suffered some damage in the past. Some restoration, visible to the naked eye, is present in the face, torso and arms of the angel. For all sales which take place on or after 1 February 2015, please note that the rate of buyer's premium for each lot (charged as a percentage of the hammer price achieved for that lot) has been revised and shall be calculated at the thresholds set out below: Buyer's premium is 25% of the hammer price up to and including £100,000; Buyer's premium is 20% of the hammer price on any amount in excess of £100, 000 up to and including £1,800,000; Buyer's premium is 12% of the hammer price on any amount in excess of £1,800,000.
