Franz Stassen (1869-1949) illustrated a series of books on the theme of Wagner's operas. This group of drawings possibly relate to this series and are therefore dateable to circa 1900-1902.

Condition

These works have been examined framed and under glass. Three of the five works appear to be in good condition. One of the drawings has some visible scattered watermarks whereas one them has severe losses to the lower left corner and some losses to the upper right corner. These works are ready to hang. All presented framed and glazed. Please contact the department for additional information.

Catalogue Note

These five drawings appear to be have been studies for the artist's tapestries for the Neue Reichskanzlei in Berlin (the Reich Chancellery), which got destroyed during WWII.
