Description

  • Giltwood, mirror glass
  • each 92cm. high, 58cm. wide; 3ft. ¼in., 1ft. 11in.

Condition

A fine set in decidedly good condition. The mirrored glass is probably original, and displays a light foxing consistent with age, as per catalogue photograph. There are minor repairs to the frames. The original gilding in overall good condition, with good patina. Candle-arms missing.

A similar treatment of the carved strapwork and entwined c-scrolls is found on a small number of Piedmontese mirrors, including one sold Christie's Rome, 15 October 1992, lot 529, and one, of slightly earlier date, sold Sotheby's London, 8 June 2005, lot 108.
