Description

  • Tondo with a Bust of a General
  • glazed terracotta
  • Italian, 19th century In Renaissance Style

Condition

Overall the condition of the tondo is very good with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. The blue glaze around the bust is slightly thin, and the colour of the terracotta comes through. The relief is composed in sections and joints are visible in four areas. There seems to be some restoration around the joins. There are some losses to the glaze in areas, in particular around the edges and to some of the high points of the fruits and flowers. There is plaster visible to the reverse, which has probably been applied to strengthen the joints. There is a modern metal hook for hanging.
