Condition

The canvas is lined, the paint surface is stable, and the varnish is discoloured. There is evidence of wear, particularly visible in the sitter's lace sleeves and neck line. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals small areas of retouching scattered throughout the composition, some of which are visible to the naked eye, for example in the sitter's face and chest, and in the curtain to the right of her. In overall good condition.
