Condition

The canvas is unlined, the paint surface is stable and the varnish is slightly uneven and discoloured. The canvas weave is visible in the sitter's face and cravat. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals a thick and milky varnish, underneath which some small areas of retouching are visible, particularly in the sitter's face. In overall good condition.
