Anonymous sale, London, Christie’s South Kensington, 8 January 2008, lot 144 (as 'English School, 19th Century').

Condition

The canvas is lined, the paint surface is stable and the varnish is clear and even. No major damages are visible to the naked eye. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals a thick, milky varnish underneath which small areas of sensitively executed retouchings are visible, most notably in the sitter's right hand and face. In overall good condition.
