Condition

Rectangular floral tapestry panel with azure blue ground: approximately 105cm by 63cm; 3ft. 5in., 2ft. Tapestry has a later silk lining. There is some discolouration to the lighter coloured petals of some of the flowers, for example the roses and tulips. There is repair to tip of blue selvedge in one corner, and a split between the main panel and border, on one side (which is at the colour change, and easily repaired). There are small white stitches seen at colour changes in other areas, which are all commensurate with the technique. There is some variation to the weave and tone of blue within the background, visible in the photograph. Very decorative panel. A Louis XIV Floral shaped tapestry panel, Beauvais, late 17th/early 18th century, and later, mounted and set within a shaped walnut frame The other - Framed floral tapestry: Shaped: 97cm. at highest in centre, and 80cm. at highest at the sides; 66cm. at widest. Tapestry has been attached to a shaped mount, backed with linen, and set in shaped frame. Tapestry has faded colours overall, discolouration especially in areas. There is later reweaving to the design in strips across the width, for example in the top centre and in rectangular shaped sections going down sides at the top (visible as paler colour palette), across the width in the lower section, and along the width of the lower edge, visible as different colours, especially the terracotta colour. There are some small horizontal splits showing foundation warps, within the foliate motif very top centre.
