Description

  • the board 4cm. high, 53cm. wide, 27cm. dee; 1½in., 1ft. 9in., 10½in. the box 9cm. high, 40cm. wide, 20cm. deep; 3½in., 1ft. 3¾in., 8in.
the interior with a chequered games board, one side of the reverse with a reserve for the fitted box which contains turned ivory and sandalwood pieces and two shakers

Condition

In overall country house condition. The casket with movement, lifting and age cracks to the ivory veneers and a break to the left hand reverse hinge making the top uneven. With a split to the interior lining of the base. With a complete set of counters and pieces with some minor chips and scratches as to be expected. The board with some lifting and minor losses to veneer - notably to the ivory stringing on the backgammon board, one section of which is loose and will require some attention. The chess board with two loose white squares which will require attention to re-stick. The playing surface with some evidence of bowing. Some screws are loose form the hinges but are present and will require re-fixing. With old marks, scratches and chips commensurate with age and use.
