  • Dutch School, 18th Century
  • A grisaille painting of an allegory of navigation; a grisaille painting depicting a sculptural relief of two putti clasping fish either side of a roundel in a sculpted niche
  • both oil on canvas, the first with an arched top, laid down on board
  • 219 x 142cm
together with a similar Dutch monochrome painted dessus-de-porte

Condition

The larger canvas has a board behind the relined canvas, though this is not adhered to it. The smaller canvas is relined. Both are in good condition, in need of no further work. The larger canvas has a few old restored tears at the upper left and right margins, which have been well restored. The smaller canvas has extensive restoration in the lower body of the putto on the right. There are minor scattered retouchings throughout both. Offered in simple painted wood frames in good condition.
