Catalogue Note
Elegantly carved and well balanced, this commode is a good example of Franconian Rococo, a version of the late Régence style successfully promoted by the enthusiastic Prince-Elector Max-Emmanuel of Bavaria (1662-1726) - who in the early 18th century had been exiled to Paris - and which later developed in parallel with the Louis XV rococo.
A similar console table was sold in these Rooms, Collections, 27 October 2015, lot 47; another one from the Leonhardt Collection sold Sotheby's London, 29 April 2014, lot 455.
