Description

  • Ebony, Oak, brass, steel, glass
  • 35cm. 13¼in. high
6½-inch dial with winged cherub spandrels, signed Dan Quare, London, matted centre with mock pendulum and date apertures and ringed winding hole, finely pierced hour hand, the movement with five knopped  and ringed pillars, chain fusee, verge escapement with pierced and engraved apron, pull quarter repeating on two bells, the backplate with wheatear border and finely engraved with foliate scrolls, signed in a cartouche Daniel Quare, London, the case with shallow domed top and Quare's typical double-S handle, moulded cornice and base with block feet, frets now blocked

Condition

Dial in good condition, very minor surface rusting to hour hand. Movement is complete and looks as though it would run but may benefit from fresh oil, wheel trains appear to be original but escape wheel is almost certainly replaced and fusee has later chain. Case in good clean condition with some old minor cracks to the side veneers, fret apertures now blocked, rear lock replaced. With door key but no winder.
