A renaissance gilt-brass astronomical table clock, probably South German, late 16th century with later losses and alterations

  • 14cm. 5½in. diameter
5-inch outer hours ring with touch pieces, the inner dial plate with twenty-four hour dial engraved I-XII twice and enclosing an astrolabic plate engraved Prima domus, (later steel hour hand), the movement with turned and ringed pillars, verge escapement with later balance and hairspring, chain fusee with lipped barrel, the striking train with numbered locking plate mounted on the backplate, gut fusee, striking on a large bell enclosing the movement, the drum case pierced and engraved with arabesques  

Condition

PROSPECTIVE BUYERS SHOULD INSPECT PERSONALLY. Dial in generally good condition for age with many old scuffs and marks but retaining much of the original gilding, astrolabe is incomplete (lacking all parts except the plate), later hour hand. Movement has alterations and old repairs throughout, some spare holes, later balance and hairspring, original gilding to plates is rubbed and marked. Case as the dial, retaining some original gilding. No winder.
