Overall dimensions: 316cm across the top, 328cm at widest point, 313cm across the bottom, 428cm the left hand side, 413cm vertically through the centre, 420cm the right hand side.
Very fine, flexible, handle. The silk of very good quality and vibrant colouring. The design rich and balanced. Pile variable from 3mm with scattered areas down to knotheads and foundation. The walnut browns and taupe oxidised generally, commensurate with age. There are scattered areas of repair, a larger example of which is a band of cobbled repair three quarters of the way down on the left hand side, this area spans from the outer guard-stripe and into the field, measuring approx 82cm, further smaller repairs can be found in this section also. Approximately 3ft below this area is a band of vertical re-piling, measuring approx. 10cm. There is an area of slight discolouration in the lower border to the right hand side, only noticeable under close inspection, with some areas of tinting also. Very minor spotting to the middle section of the right hand border, would likely go with a professional clean. The carpet bows slightly, please refer to overall dimensions (also visible from the photograph). Some of the original fringing to the upper end, approx two thirds. The fringing on the lower end trimmed. Sidecords probably later. For further information or photographs please contact the department on +44 (0)207 293 6441.
This is an exquisite carpet with complicated yet well balanced design and a wide array of subtlety in the colouring .
