Condition

Overall dimensions: 239cm across the top, 239cm across the bottom, 469cm the left hand side, 473cm the right hand side. Flexible handle. The pile varies from 4mm in the top row of lozenges, down to knotheads and foundation in areas, for example see the central flowerhead between the two middle lozenges at the lowermost end. There are areas of re-piling, mainly to the indigo field, an example can be seen in the centre right lozenge in the lowermost band. There are areas of repair, largely to the upper and lower ends. Examples of which are to the top left hand corner which has been replaced, measuring approx 9 by 8cm and a further repair which spans the top main and inner border and a section of the field, measuring approx. 14 by 12cm. This section has been replaced with the weave running in opposing direction to the main carpet, photographs are available from the department, this section stitched with herringbone tape to the reverse. Kelleh reduced in length and a section of border turned to create the lower border. Comprised of two main central sections each measuring approx 93 by 33cm stitched and joined to the reverse with tape. Two smaller joined sections to the left and right make up the outer miner border, each approx. 22 by 4cm. The direction of the weave opposes that of the main carpet. Both the tasselled ends are later and have been stitched to the underside. These joins are professionally done and are stable. Original sidecords. The carpet would benefit from a professional clean. This is a highly decorative floral carpet and is ready to be used.
