Catalogue Note

Famous café-concert singer, actress, writer and stage director, Yvette Guilbert frequently inspired artists : Marcel Proust for his first article in the Mensuel, and several painters as well, and principally Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. In 1895, Joseph Granié painted a bust of Yvette Guilbert, on a golden background, kept at the Musée d'Orsay, Paris.
In our opinion, Yvette Guilbert is recognisable to her eyes, her nose, and the way she usually keeps her chin up.
